John 2:17-19 NASB1995 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house will consume me.” The Jews then said to Him, “What sign do You show us as your authority for doing these things?” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
Jesus had driven out those who were seeking to profit off of the work of the Lord. The disciples saw through his action that Jesus was living scripture. He was exactly what Old Testament Scripture said the Messiah would be. In absolutely every way He was in God's will and without sin.
However, many who received their own glory and profit from the actions that Jesus had halted, confronted Him.
They were saying, "Show us you have the authority to do such things." Who do you think you are, was the thought they had. Jesus responded with a Statement that shows His insight is the insight of God! Jesus is God. His response was, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."
Look at the teaching of Jesus. You have attempted to destroy my house by making it sinful. Your actions were solely for your profit and glory instead of being for the glory of God! I will not stand for it. This house was built to reveal God. Then Jesus says, you want a sign. You will have one. Destroy this fleshly temple that, I (God) dwell in just like you are attempting to do with the house of God. Lay the sin of all the world for all of time on it and watch! I will raise it up in the Glory of God in three days. I will raise it again to do what it was meant to do at creation, what it was meant to do at birth, what it has done these 33 years on me. You can cover it with your filthy sin and I will raise it up pure to bring Glory to God!
God created us to show His Glory. When we have any selfish desire, it turns that glory from God to us.
Worship of God is ALL about God!
You can not glorify yourself and God at the same time!
What are the actions of our flesh glorifying? We should have a zeal for the temple of God. He dwells in Christians.
Do we house Him for His Glory or to glorify ourselves? The people were greatly blessed that God chose to dwell in Israel, yet for them, that was not enough. They sought to profit (receive glory) in the flesh as well.
The question is, are you profiting for the GLORY of God, or are you glorifying God for your PROFIT?
There will be profit in your glory of God, but if the glory is for the profit, it is for you and no longer for God.
Jesus felt STRONGLY (zeal) about this. Do we?
