Mark 12:24 NASB1995 Jesus said to them, “Is this not the reason you are mistaken, that you do not understand the Scriptures or the power of God?
Jesus, speaking to the Sadducees, said you are mistaken, and the reason you are mistaken is because you do not understand scripture.
This is the problem of people today. They form opinions that they consider to be fact-based upon perception. When perception is your final authority, then your opinions, which you claim to be fact, are ever-changing based on your perception at that moment. One definition of perception is, physical sensation interpreted in the light of experience. Let me give you an example. You walk into a kitchen and you smell what you perceive to be bacon. It smells good you say. Then, you eat some of it and it makes you horribly, and miserably sick. You come back into the kitchen and smell the same bacon again but It no longer smells good. In the light of your experience, you interpret the smell differently when you realize the outcome. Your perception has changed. Scripture never changes.
However, our understanding of scripture can change based upon our lack of knowledge of the entirety of the scripture and our lack of revelation from the Holy Spirit who is the Author of scriptures. Therefore we miss the power of God.
When you study the entirety of scripture and rely on the Holy Spirit's understanding, you will not be mistaken.
Instead, we read bits and pieces and attempt to interpret based on our perception, instead of the Holy Spirit's knowledge. Therefore we are often mistaken, much like the Sadducees.
We are much better off and will less often be mistaken if we will study the entire Bible while seeking understanding from the Holy Spirit. The scripture reveals God and His power. Which are always right, true, and the final authority.
I pray we will not be mistaken in the next year because we stop relying on perception and instead rely on the power of God revealed in the entire scripture with understanding from the Author, who indwells Christians.
Don't be mistaken.
Start reading the Bible and read it through this coming year. Study it and pray for understanding through the Holy Spirit.
Do not rely on perception, rely on God!
