What or who is the apple of your eye? We have heard the saying, "the apple of his eye". We know it means the most valuable thing to him. The thing that makes his eye twinkle and a smile come upon his face. Many might say my spouse, child, or grandchild, is the apple of my eye. Did you know that there are three places in the Bible that speak of the apple of the eye? In all three it literally means the pupil of the eye. It is speaking of the center of view. The most important thing made evident by the focus of vision on this item. In two of the three, it is speaking of the apple of God's eye. In Psalm 17:8, David asks the Lord to keep him as the apple of God's eye. He is saying I know I have been the apple of your eye Lord, will you keep me there? Then, in Zechariah 2:8, Zechariah says, "he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye." In both of these verses, it is saying you are the apple, the focus of the Lord's eye. Isn't it a great feeling to know that it is you who makes the Lord's eye twinkle and puts a smile on His face? Then, in the third place that it speaks of this, it is referring to what should be the apple of your eye. What do you think it is?
Here is the verse that is our text for today. Proverbs 7:2 NASB1995 Keep my commandments and live, And my teaching as the apple of your eye.
God says let My TEACHINGS be the apple of your eye. Make My TEACHINGS the center of your focus. When you look at My TEACHINGS, your eye should twinkle, and a smile come upon your face, for in the keeping of My commandments, you shall live. We call existing in this world without Christ living but the Bible refers to it as being dead in our trespasses and sin. Real life requires Christ. He is God in the flesh. He is also referred to as His Word, Truth, the Way, and Life. In living in His Word (Christ), we have life. This shows us the importance of His TEACHINGS and why God desires them to be the apple of our eye.
Do you get excited at the reading, studying, preaching, singing, quoting, praying, and living out of His TEACHINGS?
Let His TEACHING be the apple of your eye, then you will desire to keep His commandments, and you will be excited about life.
When asked why are you smiling, you can say my eyes are twinkling, my face is smiling simply because I have just recalled the apple of my eye. God's teaching says, John 3:16 NASB1995 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
That is the Apple of my eye!
Now that is living!
I wish you could see the twinkle in my eyes and the smile on my face right now!!!
