October 31st, 1512, was the first unveiling of the Sistine Ceiling. The following day November 1st, 1512, the Sistine Chapel was opened to the public for viewing. Michelangelo had finished the painting which depicted 9 scenes from Genesis. They are The Separation of Light from Darkness, The Creation of the Sun, Moon, and Plants, The Separation of Land, and Water, The Creation of Adam, The Creation of Eve, The Fall and Expulsion of Satan, The Sacrifice of Noah, The Great Flood, The Drunkenness of Noah. 5 of these scenes were from the creation week. It is estimated that over 2 billion people have seen these scenes of the works of God Almighty. They have looked at, been amazed by, and studied the works of God. The side walls contain many other scenes from the works of God through Moses to The works of God the Son Jesus the Christ.
It is like the writer of the 111th Psalms had divine inspiration when he wrote Psalm 111:2 NASB95 Great are the works of the LORD; They are studied by all who delight in them.
The problem with my illustration is that a vast majority of those over 2 billion people who have traveled to the Sistine Chapel to look at the depictions of the works of God did not travel to look at, be amazed by, or study the works of God. They instead did this to look at, be amazed by, and study the paintings of Michelangelo and others who painted these depictions on the ceilings and walls. They have totally missed out on the blessings of the Creator who did the work the artist depicted. They missed out on the blessings of knowing this Creator and His reason for creating us.
Unfortunately, the same thing happens to many people who read of the Lord's work. They miss out on the relationship that He did the work for. That relationship is between Him and us.
When you look at the works of creation in the beauty of the world, and you study all the wonders of God, don't miss out on the opportunity to praise Him for who He is and thank Him for His desire for us. We come together for that purpose. In fact, the previous verse says, Psalm 111:1 NASB95 Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart, In the company of the upright and in the assembly.
If you study the Sistine Ceiling, you will see some great work. However, if you study the works that are depicted in the scenes of the Sistine Ceiling, you will see an amazing God! It is my prayer this is what you see!
