Follow Me!

According to my count 19 times in the Bible it says Jesus spoke the words follow Me!

The words follow Me! "FOLLOW ME"

These are the foundational words of discipleship. Jesus says, follow Me! If you want to be my disciple follow me. Spend time with me. Watch me. Do what I do. Live like I live. Say what I say. Help the way that I help. Be loving as I am loving. Be firm as I am firm. Be holy as I am holy. Be sacrificial as I am sacrificial. Be obedient as I am obedient. If you want to be My disciple follow Me so closely that people look at you and see Me. When you live as I live, they will not glorify you but will look at you and see Me; then they will glorify and worship My Father in Heaven!

Matthew 9:9 NASB95 As Jesus went on from there, He saw a man called Matthew, sitting in the tax collector’s booth; and He said to him, “Follow Me!” And he got up and followed Him.

Jesus was a disciple-maker. He said boldly and repeatedly, follow Me! Are you a Jesus follower? Are you sure? The day Jesus saved you, there was a commitment to follow Him. You that day committed to be His disciples. He was baptized to make His ministry known in obedience to the Father. Did you follow Him in obedience through the baptistry waters, after you were saved? In other words, did you follow Jesus? If we did and we continued to follow Him, then we should be right in His will today. Jesus says Follow me! Did we? Are we? Will we?

There came a point where Jesus said. John 13:36 NASB95 Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?” Jesus answered, “Where I go, you cannot follow Me now; but you will follow later.”

This is the point where you are to continue on in His path and become a disciple-maker. Are we making disciples?

Jesus said you will follow later. When He takes us to Heaven where He is. Will we say to our disciples, "Where I go, you cannot follow Me now, but keep following Jesus?" If we do, then will those who have followed us say, "ok" or "Who is Jesus?" Will they be very familiar with Him because they followed us and saw us following Jesus, or will they say, Jesus who?

19 times in scripture, Jesus said Follow Me.

Have we been listening? Our text tells us Matthew got up and followed Jesus. He left everything of his previous life behind and he followed Jesus. 10 of the other 11 disciples did the same. The other one, named Judas Iscariot, he kept His pride and love of money and followed for a while. He eventually betrayed Jesus and went his own way. He felt so much remorse he hung himself. Be careful that you are truly following Jesus because of your faith in Him and not for your own glory.

Jesus said it clearly "Follow Me!"

If someone asks you what you are doing with your life, will your answer be following Jesus?
