Job 2:10 NASB95 But he said to her, “You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?” In all this Job did not sin with his lips.
Job's wife saw him in his pain and said just curse God and die.
People tend to question God about the brokenness in this world. They say how can a loving God allow...
Their list can range from a baby suffering from cancer to someone who has caused the deaths of thousands of people and walks free. They question God and do not understand what Job does.
Job said to his wife, "You speak as one of the foolish women speak." According to BDB, The word foolish refers to someone who has no perception of ethical and religious claims.
What Job understands is we are all deserving of these things and far worse. We, as sinners, are deserving of eternal death (separation from God). So the question shouldn't be why does a loving God allow bad things to happen, but instead, why does a just God not sentence everyone to immediate and eternal death (out of His presence)? The answer is that He is a loving, kind, forgiving, and long-suffering God who desires no one to perish. Job says, Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?”
God in allowing Satan to punish Job, still protected him from what he deserved. God called Job blameless and upright. This means that he lived a moral life. However, it doesn't mean he is without sin. He would sacrifice regularly for his children, and we can rightly assume for himself also. Job lived by faith in the promised Messiah and followed by faith the example of the shedding of blood for atonement of sin. One commentary says, "We know that Job was not sinlessly perfect; yet God unashamedly seemed to see him that way. The modern believer stands in the same place, completely justified in Jesus Christ."
May we never ask how can a loving God allow evil but instead understand what we deserve and say as Job said, Shall we indeed accept good from God and not accept adversity?”
In this, just as Job, we will not sin with our lips.
