Haggai 2:9 ‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘and in this place I will give peace,’ declares the Lord of hosts.”
Haggai speaks of the temple that had been rebuilt smaller and less spectacular than at first. He asks is there anyone who remembers the previous temple? It was much more magnificent than this one. But then he says the latter will be greater. Now we know as far as the size of the temple it never increased to be larger than the previous one so God can not be speaking of that. No one was ever wealthier than Solomon and never were there greater earthly riches placed in the temple than by him. So God can not be speaking of that. Therefore we look at the indwelling of God in the previous temple in 2 Chronicles 7 and we see fire consumed the offerings and the Glory of God filled the temple with smoke. The Glory of God filled that temple, but would the Glory of God ever feel the new temple? Haggai says an even greater glory would come on this smaller less spectacular temple. This happened when Jesus was brought into the temple. The salvation of the world was in the temple. God Himself not in smoke and fire but in flesh and yet many people missed God's Glory. They missed the peace He offered.
Today we are the temple of God and the glory of God indwells this latter temple. Even though these last filled temples contain the Glory of God many people miss it because we don't open the windows of the temple for the Glory to shine out. Christians can show the Glory of God as it indwells us and through it can offer peace that surpasses all understanding. Yet many of us don't even experience this peace because we have closed up our temple so tight no glory escapes. What percentage of people do you meet every day that walk away thinking that person has Jesus inside of them? How many are amazed at the peace we have or are they amazed at the turmoil of our lives? We have a greater Glory of God inside of us and live as if we are a dungeon instead of a lighthouse for God's light to shine. Pray seek find them open your windows and let the Glory of God flow from His temple as peace surpasses all understanding. This will happen declared the Lord of Host! Love Bro. Scott
