Many people who refuse to accept God, who refuse to follow Him, who refuse to surrender their lives to Him, get upset when they pray for Him to do their will and He does not answer.
They pray God heal my child, God help me get this job, and God help save my marriage, but they refuse to accept Him as Lord. Then, when they finish praying, they go on living in their pride and sin that they, by the image of God inside of them, know is wrong. Scripture says in John 9:31 NASB1995 We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.
God does not respond to the prayers of a person who refuses Him and lives in their sin and yet prays for their desire. When you know, you have not truly accepted Him as your Savior, how is it that you go to Him with your sinful heart's desire? How is it when you are going against your Savior by living in sin that you know is wrong but refuse to give up, can you ask God to guide you? He will not listen until you follow His guidance to leave your sin. The man who spoke these words (the man born blind and given sight by Jesus} knew from scripture, which at that time was the Old Testament, that God would not hear the prayer of a man who lived in sin. Therefore since God listened to Jesus, he realized that Jesus must be a Godly man.
Do you feel like God doesn't hear you? Do you feel like He doesn't respond to you? Then look at your sins and repent. Then come to God with Him as your Lord and see what happens. It might even be that what you were praying for you no longer desire.
Clarke puts it this way. "God hearth not sinners, When they regard iniquity in their heart-when they wish to be saved, and yet abide in their sins-when they will not separate themselves from the workers and works of iniquity. In all these cases, God heareth not sinners.
Calvin explains it; God does not listen to any but those who call upon him with truth and sincerity. For while faith alone opens the door to us to go to God, it is certain that all wicked men are excluded from approaching to him; and he even declares that he detests their prayers, (Proverbs 28:9,) as he abhors their sacrifices, (Proverbs 15:8.) It is by a special privilege that he invites his children to himself; and it is the Spirit of adoption alone that crieth out in our hearts, Abba, Father, (Romans 8:15; Galatians 4:6)
I say it this way, "crying out to God for your heart's desire does no good until your heart's desire is to be His obedient child."
John 9:31 NASB1995 We know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, He hears him.
