1 John 1:1-3 NASB1995 What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.
We are given a description of Jesus as God breathes out His words through the pen of John.
What was from the beginning explains to us that Jesus has always been. He is God. He was not created but has always been a part of the triune God Head. In Genesis 1:1 it says,
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
The Hebrew word translated God is Elohim. It is plural meaning God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. All three in one were present at creation. John then says what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life.
Hearing refers to the living word of God. John declared the word became flesh.
The apostles had visually beheld the word of God in the flesh as they had touched Jesus. John says he reclined on Jesus.
He loved his God so much that he laid his head on Jesus' chest to find comfort. I can't think of the number of times I laid my head against my dad to find comfort. John describes this to explain that the apostles were there so close to Jesus that they had fellowship and love. They were there to see the resurrection that gave life. They were there when He ascended, and they have received His eternal life, so now they proclaim it in Jesus, who is the Son of God. He was there a creation. He became flesh. He lived perfect, died a substitutionally, was buried three days, rose to life defeating death, spent time with the apostles, and went back to the Father, all because He loves His creation. John then says, eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
John explains Jesus is eternal life with the Father. He has given this to the apostles, so that what they have experienced they can proclaim to us. Therefore we can have that same fellowship that is eternal life. Fellowship is not being entertained together but being intertwined together forever in the family of God.
Do you have that?
I proclaim to you I have experienced Jesus in ways similar to John. I, too, have experienced being in the presence of Jesus. Not in the flesh but in the Spirit. I would love for you to experience the amazing feeling of being intertwined with Jesus and the family.
It is really very simple. It just has to be done with all that you are. Romans 10:9-11 NASB1995 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”
